LIFE’S A BEACH

We do like to be by the seaside. On a beach, with a cold drink in hand, listening to music, strolling or buried in a good book, to be specific. But life’s a bitch.. Or a beach, you get the drift, yeah?

So much happening in our lives today, we barely have time to stop in between and just catch a breath. Finding serenity has proven to be a task because life’s a bitch. More often than not, we identify ourselves by the roles we play—parent, partner, teacher, engineer, husband/wife, son, daughter, etc. We get accustomed to these roles and sometimes lose sight of our deeper selves. As such, roles and routines can limit self-discovery and fulfillment, which is why finding some undisturbed, quiet time every day is so important.

“My life is always hustle-bustle. Finding time for peace and relaxation? Huh, that’s a laugh,” says my friend. He adds, “Sure, I love having some quiet time for myself. But it’s just an occasional luxury.” Me, “Serenity should be a priority, not a luxury. Stop being too busy making a living, to forget taking care of yourself mentally, physically or emotionally because one day you’ll use all that fortune you are striving to make, to treat yourself. It all begins now.” He was quiet, you could hear his silence, he knew I was right.

My life can be hectic sometimes that I barely function and don’t have a minute for myself and that’s when I stop. I don’t care if everything will go wrong but that is usually an indication that I need.

 

Usually, the beach my first place to go. A day at the beach is synonymous with relaxation. Nothing to do except soak up the sun and play in the water while reading a good book and hanging out with your favorite people. For it’s peaceful, easy-going qualities, beach time is seen as a great source of stress relief.

But it’s more than that, researchers say. Being at the beach has specific health benefits for your brain and your body, which is why it’s the best place to take a few days off (or live permanently, if you’re lucky enough).

Some of the benefits are:

  1. The sound of the ocean soothes you.

    There’s a reason sound machines that lull you to sleep all have ocean soundtracks. Listening to waves crash against the shore can actually alter your brain waves, lulling you into a relaxed state, and may trigger the release of dopamine and serotonin. All this reduces your stress levels and helps you relax.

  2. The beach boosts your immune system.

Doctors have been prescribing trips to the ocean for centuries, and for several excellent reasons. Sunlight gives you vitamin D, which helps prevent autoimmune diseases. Seawater contains several minerals and other compounds that help boost your immune system and rid your body of toxins. For example, seawater helps cuts heal faster (although it stings) and can even stop a  runny nose. The waves contain iodine, which is great for your thyroid and subsequently boosts your immune system.

  1. Even the air is good for you.

    The air at the beach is thought to be chock-full of negative ions. Not only do these boost your immune system, but they also help balance your levels of serotonin. This improves your mood and reduces your stress levels, plus it helps you sleep better at night!

  2. The ocean gives you perspective.

When you stare out at the ocean, its sheer vastness makes you feel tiny. And that’s a great thing! Being at the ocean is therapeutic because it helps put your problems in perspective. This is a major boon to your mental health – and why picturing the ocean is so common in many relaxation exercises.

This are the major benefits which helps bring serenity in your life.  That’s why people go to the coast during holidays. Well, holidays are almost here, is your beach body ready? ignore the fact that life’s a bitch, give yourself a break from and unwind. Cheers!
